The South Carolina General Assembly approved $1.5 million dollars for breast, cervical, and colorectal cancer screenings last week. This was a huge success for the people of South Carolina.
Nancy Cheney, Director of Government Relations for South Carolina has been working with South Carolina lawmakers since January to provide funding for breast, cervical, and colorectal cancer screenings in the state budget.
When the budget was approved last week by the General Assembly, the Best Chance Network which provides breast and cervical cancer screenings for uninsured women was awarded $1 million and the Center for Colorectal Cancer Screenings was awarded $500,000.
Both items were vetoed by Governor Haley. Thankfully, both the House and Senate overrode the veto to provide the funds in the 2014 state budget and in turn will save the lives of hundreds of South Carolinians.

This is a huge win for South Carolina and the ACS CAN team is very thankful for our advocates across the state who helped with this campaign.
