Massachusetts Moves to Protect Teens from Indoor Tanning

Great news last week out of Massachusetts where Governor Charlie Baker and the state legislature enacted new legislation to prevent youth under the age of 18 from using indoor tanning devices. ACS CAN staff and volunteers have been working hard to protect Massachusetts teens from the harms of indoor tanning and weŠ—'re hoping that this early legislative win in 2016 sets the tone for other states to do the same.

Don't Fry Day: Louisiana, Minnesota Protecting Minors from Indoor Tanning

The summer season kicks off today with Don't Fry Day, an annual day dedicated to encouraging good sun safety behavior to prevent skin cancer. As the American Cancer Society's Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Len, will tell you, it's critically important to wear good sunscreen and shade your skin from the sun starting at an early age. In addition to protecting yourself from the harmful rays of the sun, it's also important to avoid indoor tanning beds -- especially important for youth.

Don't Fry Day

Today officially kicks off the summer season, as families and friends head to the beach for the long holiday weekend. As people start to spend more time outside, it's important to raise awareness about skin cancer and the dangers of tanning. That's why the National Council on Skin Cancer Prevention designated the Friday before Memorial Day as "Don't Fry Day."
