Unregulated Farm Bureau Health Plans

Farm Bureau health plans are unregulated sub-standard health plans that don’t have to follow insurance laws. Additionally, they do not provide protection for pre-existing conditions or cover essential health benefits. These plans are marketed as a solution for farmers, yet 2 in 3 farmers have pre-existing conditions.

If passed, these plans could lead to more medical debt for Alabamians, particularly those battling chronic or life-threatening conditions. These plans can discriminate against individuals based on medical history and impose caps on coverage. Farm bureau plans could also drive up premiums in the individual marketplace causing more Alabamians to pay more for insurance.
