Texas cancer advocates will be descending upon our state capitol for an incredible day of action Tuesday, February 21st.

Help amplify their voices by taking action at home for our Virtual Cancer Action Week February 20-28

2023 Texas Cancer Action Day

Tuesday, February 21st, 2023

  • ACS CAN Texas 2023 legislative priorities: 

    • Securing $600 million in appropriations to support the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas.
    • Maintaining $2.5 million in funding for Texas Breast and Cervical Cancer Services Program.
    • Increasing funding for tobacco prevention and cessation programs at the Texas Department of State Health Services
    • Advocating for improved coverage of comprehensive biomarker testing.
    • Supporting legislation that provides cancer patients with insurance coverage for fertility preservation.
    • Support policies that encourage more copay only plans, place limits on out-of-pocket costs for prescription drugs, and ensure that all cost-sharing payments are counted.

    • Biomarker testing is the latest advanced in cancer research that is personal to the patient and their cancer, helping ensure patients get the right treatment at the right time. Sign the petition now and lets make sure our lawmakers hear our voice!

    • Submit a letter to the editor: Turn your letter public with a quick and easy template letter to the editor! Work with Ryan Poppe on our media advocacy team to submit your letter to a local paper about the importance of biomarkers and cancer research funding in Texas at [email protected]

  • Meet with your elected official's office to talk with them about our priorities!

    • Schedule a "Drop In" with your elected official in their local office. We know that not everybody will be able to make it to Austin, but the in district office is a critical piece to winning the fight against cancer. Meeting with your elected officials and their staff in district lets them know that they are being connected with - and have access to information - at all points in the state. If this is something that you are intrested in, please contact your Grassroots Manager!

Progress in improving cancer outcomes increasingly involves the use of precision medicine, which uses information about a person’s own genes or proteins to prevent, diagnose or treat diseases like cancer. Biomarker testing is an important step to accessing precision medicine which includes targeted therapies that can lead to improved survivorship
