Tiffani, 22, moved to Michigan from Alabama shortly after her father’s death. Her father who was “the person we relied on,” was only 51 when he was diagnosed with lung cancer and died three short months later.
The high costs of her father’s treatment and untimely death left the family with many medical bills and they eventually lost their home.
Still grieving, Tiffani moved to Michigan for school where she soon discovered she qualified for Medicaid under the state’s Medicaid expansion.
For Tiffani, the most vital part of having health insurance was access to grief counseling. She is thankful that she has access to such services in Michigan, but wishes these services were available to everyone back in Alabama.
“I know a lot of people who need it. They are suffering without the help they need,” says Tiffani.
