Fancie is a smart and creative 11-year-old. She is a talented singer and drawer and wants to be a doctor in the military when she gets older.
Fancie is also allergic to bees. Last year, she was stung on her shin, and her entire leg swelled up. She had to go to an urgent care clinic and then to a follow-up visit where she and her mom were told that they have to carry an EpiPen with them whenever they go outside. Fancie also has asthma and needs to use two different inhalers daily. When she was younger, she was prone to catching bronchitis easily which resulted in three hospitalizations between the ages of two and four.
Fortunately, Fancie is covered by Medicaid, so she can get the medicines and doctors’ visits she needs to stay as healthy as she can. “If it wasn’t for Medicaid, she wouldn’t be able to have her medicines,” her mom, Candi, said. “It’s helped so tremendously.”
