Advocates from the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) met with lawmakers over lunch this afternoon before heading to the Capitol. Their goal: urging state lawmakers to remove barriers to genetic testing and recommended cancer imaging.
During Cancer Action Day, advocates called for Senate support on House Bill 1079, which aims to eliminate cost-sharing requirements for clinically appropriate genetic testing and guideline recommended cancer imaging for those with high-risk of developing cancer.

More than 300,000 individuals were disenrolled from the state Medicaid program since the state began its Medicaid redetermination process four months ago, which includes 15,000 newborns removed since Arkansas resumed eligibility reviews in Medicaid following the end of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Approximately 77,000 individuals were disenrolled from the state Medicaid program in June, marking 219,126 disenrollments since Arkansas resumed eligibility reviews in Medicaid following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Today, the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network submitted public comment opposing Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders’s proposed changes to ARHOME, which would require over 300,000 Arkansans to report work and community activities to the state to remain eligible for their current Medicaid coverage.

On Monday, the Arkansas Department of Human Services released a report showing that nearly 75,000
Arkansans lost Medicaid coverage in the first two months of the state’s redetermination of eligibility. More
than 85% of them lost coverage for procedural reasons, not necessarily because they were no longer eligible.

Several experts spoke about cancer research and its effects on the state of Arkansas during the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network’s (ACS CAN) annual Policy Forum today. The forum was an opportunity to thank several businesses for their efforts and call on others to join the fight.
