RALEIGH, NC – December 12, 2022 – A new series of TV and digital advertisements paid for by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) launched today highlights the collaborative nature of some of North Carolina’s greatest successes that has established the state as a leader on multiple fronts and points to the next anticipated one: expanding Medicaid in North Carolina.
“Cancer isn’t partisan and neither is having access to affordable health care,” noted John Hoctor, Managing Government Relations Director at ACS CAN covering North Carolina. “Voters on both sides of the aisle agree and we’ve seen state legislators, in a historic vote, come together on this issue. We’re eager to see that dynamic continue in the new year so that over 600,000 North Carolinians can have adequate access to quality health care.”
Marking the second set of advertisements by the advocacy organization this year, the latest ads are part of a larger effort by ACS CAN to continue to urge the state legislature to expand Medicaid.
Just last Wednesday, the organization hosted its annual policy forum where Secretary of Department of Health and Human Services Kody. Kinsley, Senate Health Committee Chairman Jim Burgin and ACS Chief Patient Officer Dr. Arif Kamal shared their expert thoughts and research on how such a policy would impact North Carolina; most notably, the state’s pressing health disparities in rural areas and communities of color.
