MEDIA ADVISORY: Patient Advocates Join Together at State House for Medicaid Expansion Advocacy Day

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- On Tuesday, February 25, Cover Alabama and the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) will host Medicaid Expansion Advocacy Day at the Alabama State House to urge action on Medicaid expansion. This event will spotlight the critical health care coverage gap affecting nearly 200,000 Alabamians and the ongoing crisis facing our rural hospitals. The groups will hold a news conference at 10:30 a.m. and will also have spokespeople available before and after, including patients with experience living in the coverage gap.

According to research from the Public Affairs Research Council of Alabama (PARCA), Medicaid expansion could create more than 20,000 new jobs and generate $1.89 billion in economic impact annually while saving the state nearly $400 million per year over the next six years. This advocacy day aims to demonstrate the widespread support for closing Alabama's health care coverage gap and to call on the Alabama legislature and Gov. Kay Ivey to act now.
