Joint Comment Letter Calls for Additional Clarity in USPSTF Draft Guidelines for Colon Cancer Screening

November 3, 2015

WASHINGTON, D.C. – November 2, 2015 – The American Cancer Society and advocacy affiliate, American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), sent a joint comment letter to the United States Preventive Services Task Force today on its draft Colorectal Cancer Screening Guideline recommendations.

The groups applauded the Task Force conclusion that screening for colorectal cancer (CRC) with several different methods can accurately detect early-stage colorectal cancer and precancerous polyps, and that screening for CRC in adults ages 50 and older reduces CRC mortality.

The letter went on to stress the need for further clarity around several aspects of the guideline given their direct implication on patient, provider and payer decisions.
