Healey Signs Bill to Address Breast Cancer Screening Inequities
Legislation will eliminate costly barriers to follow up breast cancer screening
Today’s House vote is proof that state legislators understand the urgency of passing legislation that creates a Mississippi-based solution to increase health care access.
Below is a statement on behalf of Lisa Lacasse, president of the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN):
“House lawmakers’ passage of Healthy Mississippi Works, HB 1725, comes at a critical time for health care access in Mississippi, providing a path to affordable health care for hundreds of thousands of people caught in the Medicaid coverage gap.
“Mississippi continues to have some of the highest cancer rates, and cancer remains a leading cause of death for Mississippians. For cancer patients and survivors in the coverage gap, we know increasing access to Medicaid coverage will mean they will gain access to comprehensive coverage for screening, medications, and lifesaving treatment. With insurance coverage being one of the most significant factors in cancer survival, we know this legislation will save lives.
“ACS CAN is committed to working with lawmakers to pass a Mississippi-based solution that will increase health care access and make the state healthier and more prosperous.”
