Audrey Miller Garcia to Lead ACS CAN Washington Government Relations

OLYMPIA, Wash. — After years of grassroots organizing and campaign work in the Western states, Audrey Miller García has been named the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) Government Relations Director for her home state of Washington. In this role she will lead ACS CAN’s efforts to advance legislation and public policies to reduce the cancer burden in the Evergreen State.

"I'm incredibly honored by the opportunity to fight for every Washingtonian impacted by cancer,” Miller Garcia said. “No matter your ZIP code, what you look like, where you're from, or who you love, I will work tirelessly to remove barriers and improve access to cancer care for you." 

Miller García previously served as ACS CAN’s Grassroots Manager for Oregon and Washington and as Senior Regional Manager for Grassroots Organizing for the past two years, also overseeing work in Nevada and Alaska. She is a graduate of Washington State University (bachelor’s degree in 2012, master’s of public affairs in 2015) and of Oak Harbor High School on Whidbey Island.

Miller García has been pivotal in the push to expand equitable access to biomarker testing in the past two sessions of the Washington Legislature and plans to continue that work now and into 2025. Beyond its game-changing contributions to cancer care, biomarker testing is important in the treatment of arthritis, other autoimmune conditions and rare diseases, with ongoing research happening in many other areas including Alzheimer’s, other neurological conditions, heart conditions and more. Without coverage for appropriate biomarker testing, patients and their families are often faced with the decision of paying for these tests out-of-pocket or forgoing them altogether.

“Every Washingtonian deserves access to quality health care. Biomarker testing is key to connecting patients with many of the latest research breakthroughs. In 2025, Washington lawmakers have the opportunity to ensure more equitable access to this game-changing testing,” Miller Garcia said.
