American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network Welcomes Four New Members to the National Board of Directors
WASHINGTON, D.C.—December 20, 2019— The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) announces four new members and the newly-elected leadership officers to the Board of Directors, with all terms beginning on January 1, 2020.
"We are incredibly honored to welcome these distinguished volunteer leaders to the Board of Directors," said Lisa Lacasse, president of ACS CAN. "Our mission to reduce the cancer burden through public policy advocacy will greatly benefit from the strategic guidance, knowledge and talent that these passionate leaders bring to the table."
The ACS CAN Board of Directors consists of 19 members, including five officers and 14 directors, who lead ACS CAN in partnership with ACS CAN and American Cancer Society CEO Gary Reedy and ACS CAN President Lisa Lacasse. Directors are elected for a two-year term, and officers hold their positions for a one-year term. Joining the Board are Philip R. O’Brien; Marcus Plescia, MD, MPH; Alice L. Pomponio; and Jose R. Ramos, Jr.
Philip R. O’Brien, Milwaukee, WI – O’Brien is an attorney and shareholder with Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren, S.C. He serves on the American Cancer Society Wisconsin State Leadership Board and previously served on the Midwest Division Board of Directors. O’Brian has served as the chair of Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign since 2010 and currently serves as the lead ACS CAN volunteer for Wisconsin’s 4th Congressional District.
Marcus Plescia, MD, MPH, Charlotte, NC – Dr. Plescia is the Chief Medical Officer of the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials and provides medical leadership and expertise across the agency and oversees the portfolio of chronic disease prevention and control programs. He has served in public health leadership roles at the local, state, and federal level in North Carolina and at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Dr. Plescia serves on the American Cancer Society’s Mission Outcomes Committee and served on the former South Atlantic Division Board of Directors.
Alice L. Pomponio, Medway, MA – Pomponio serves as a strategic and operational advisor of Red Sky Partners LLC and the founder and managing director of Accendo Bio, an independent social innovation consulting practice aimed at accelerating innovative solutions to patient access, affordability, and adherence through enterprise formation, impact investment, and nonprofit strategic planning. She is incoming Chair of the Eastern New England Area Board as well as Chair of ACS CAN’s annual New England Research Breakfast.
Jose R. Ramos, Jr., San Ramon, CA – Ramos is the Senior Director for Global Customer Acquisition in the Consumer Business Unit at Symantec. He served as chair of the former California Division Board and has served in a variety of other volunteer roles including as a chair of Relay For Life and as ACS CAN’s California State Lead Ambassador, the state’s lead volunteer.
