American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network Picks Jennifer Atlas to Lead Fight Against Cancer in Nevada
Atlas to Serve as Government Relations Director in New Role
Jennifer Atlas, Henderson resident, has joined the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) as the government relations director in Nevada. In this role, Atlas will lead ACS CAN’s efforts in the state to advance legislation and public policies to reduce the cancer burden in the state.
Atlas grew up outside of Denver, Colorado and earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder. She now lives in Henderson with her son, Beau. Atlas first moved to Las Vegas in 2006 to pursue her career as a ballroom dancer, where she worked alongside some of the world’s top performers and with notable productions across town. After her career in dance, she went on to work in hospitality and public affairs on the Las Vegas Strip for one of Nevada’s largest employers. With experience in both the public and private sectors, Atlas is excited to bring her passion for advocacy to ACS CAN.
“I’m honored to be an advocate for cancer survivors, patients, and their families.” said Atlas. “Nevada is feeling the burden from this disease. Access to care, prevention, and early detection are vital. I look forward to working with state and federal lawmakers on policies that aim to prevent future cancer cases and improve outcomes for those who are diagnosed.”
Atlas’ work on behalf of cancer patients, and survivors has already begun. Earlier this month, she testified in opposition of AB76 which would amend Nevada’s Clean Indoor Act to allow for cannabis smoking inside designated consumption lounges. Atlas will also join volunteer advocates on March 24th in Carson City for Cancer Action Day at the state capitol. Advocates plan to meet with state lawmakers and ask them to support measures to improve access to biomarker testing for Nevadans.
