Healey Signs Bill to Address Breast Cancer Screening Inequities
Legislation will eliminate costly barriers to follow up breast cancer screening
The following is a statement by Kimberly Hughes, Mississippi government relations director for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network.
“Mississippi’s legislative leadership said improving access to health care for low-income working Mississippians would be on the table during the 2024 legislative session and today Speaker White and Chairwoman McGee kept that promise. We applaud lawmakers’ continued commitment to crafting a Mississippi-based solution to increase health care access and make our state healthier and more prosperous.
“We’re encouraged by today’s historic vote in the House Medicaid Committee as an overwhelming majority of Mississippians across party lines believe the legislature should make a deal to expand Medicaid.”
Cancer patients and survivors caught in the coverage gap know all too well that increasing access to health care means comprehensive coverage for screenings, medications, and life-saving treatments. The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network will continue to work with state legislators to find a solution that eliminates our state’s coverage gap.
