Alabama Call to Prayer Scheduled Ahead of Legislative Session

Congregations Pray for Health Care for the 220,000 Alabamians who Could Access Care through Medicaid Expansion

January 29, 2025

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – More than 300 congregations across Alabama have been invited to take part in a Call to Prayer this weekend ahead of the kickoff to the state’s legislative session. The event highlights the need for improved health care access for the 220,000 hardworking Alabamians living in the coverage gap who could benefit from Medicaid expansion.

“There are more than 200,000 Alabamians living in the coverage gap, many of them in rural parts of our state with huge challenges to access care,” said Pastor Chuck Poole with Together for Hope. “Our sacred scriptures are clear in calling people of all faiths to stand in solidarity with our neighbors who live on the hard edges of life. I pray our state lawmakers are led to feel the same calling to support such a critical, lifesaving issue.”
