ACS CAN Files Comments on the Affordable Care Act & Grandfather ' Rule, Citing the Need for Disclosure, Oversight and Greater Detail on Triggers for Cessation of Grandfather Status

WASHINGTON, DC – August 16, 2010 – The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network filed comments on the ‘Grandfather’ rule in the Affordable Care Act, in an effort to more clearly define which plans will be exempt from certain provisions in the new law. As noted in an earlier statement on the rule, overall this is a strong rule that encourages plans to strengthen benefits for patients and strips them of their ‘grandfather’ status if they choose to reduce benefits or substantially shift costs to patients.
