I won’t lie to you, friends. This was a tough loss today.
But, it’s not over by a long shot.
While the U.S. House of Representatives may have voted to change the current health law in ways that may be extremely harmful to cancer patients and survivors, the bill they passed still must get voted on in the U.S. Senate.
Four months ago, many people considered the House vote to be a slam dunk. They told us there was no point in waging a campaign on a House bill because it supposedly already had the votes to pass before it was even introduced.
You changed that. You called, you emailed, you Tweeted, you turned out to town halls, you went to rallies, you wrote letters to the editor. And, while today wasn’t the outcome we wanted, ACS CAN volunteers played a critical role in changing the debate on this issue.
I can’t begin to tell you how grateful I am to you for that.
What’s next?
We move on to the Senate. And, though we are disappointed, we can’t give up the fight, especially because early indications show strong bipartisan objections among Senators to the House-passed bill.
So, you’ll be hearing from me again very soon about how we can work together to stop this bill in its current form in the U.S. Senate.
Until then, if you don’t already follow us on Facebook and Twitter, I hope you’ll consider doing so now.
Thank you - for everything you’ve done, and everything you’ll continue to do.
