Established in 2007, with support from Texas voters and ACS CAN, the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) is a critical resource in the fight against cancer.
What does CPRIT do?
Invest in the research capabilities of Texas institutions
To date, CPRIT has invested over $865 million and recruited more than 300 CPRIT scholars to universities and research institutions across Texas! These scholars include the 2018 Nobel Prize Winner for Physiology or Medicine, two Lasker Award recipients, four NCI Outstanding Investigaror Awardees, and three PEW Foundation Scholars, just to name a few!

Create and Expand Life Science infrastructure
By expanding the life science infrastructure within the state of Texas, CPRIT has helped improve cancer treatment and prevention for our great state. Fostering collaboration amongst researchers and institutions through core facility enhancements and training programs, cancer research and innovation in Texas is advancing at an accelerated rate.
Support innovation for cancer prevention and cures
Thanks to CPRIT's efforts, Texas is a leader in cancer research, prevention and treatment. As of 2023, CPRIT-funded screening projects have detected more than 29,000 cancers and cancer precursors and over 400,000 Texans have been able to receive their first cancer screenings!
