HARRISBURG, PA – The emergency order that had been imposed by Governor Wolf, as a result of the pandemic, that prohibited smoking in casinos, has now been lifted. Because of this, smoking is now again allowed in casinos.
American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) Pennsylvania Government Relations Director Emma Watson has released the following statement:
“Not only has prohibiting smoking in casinos been good for the workers who once again are now forced to breathe secondhand smoke, but smoke-free air is also good for business. Pennsylvania casinos just recorded their best month ever, and that was with the temporary smoke-free policy in place. Casinos have learned to operate differently during this past year. Why go back to the old way now?
“One of the lasting impacts of the pandemic will be a greater awareness of the air we breathe, and most businesses are letting customers know their space is a safe environment. All businesses should be able to do the same.
“Smoke-free is also good for business because they would save on expenses as employee health care costs go down, workers would take fewer sick days, productivity would increase, and maintenance and cleaning costs would decrease.
“I ask Governor Wolf and our legislative leaders to make the health of all Pennsylvanians a priority and to please prohibit smoking in all Pennsylvania’s places of business.”
