The use of tobacco products remains the nation’s number one cause of preventable death. In Arizona an estimated 8,300 deaths are caused by smoking each year. We support a tobacco control package of legislation that will define all tobacco products, including e-cigarettes, as tobacco and implement a tobacco retail license with real fees, fines and penalties, including the possibility of suspension and revocation of the license. Arizona is one of only a handful of states that does not have a tobacco retail license. It is vital that we protect local jurisdictions from preemptive action, and include e-cigarettes in the statewide smoke-free law.
