How You Can Help Hold Big Tobacco Accountable
Nearly 20 years ago, a U.S. Federal District judge found that the major cigarette manufacturers violated civil racketeering laws for deliberately defrauding the public.
In yet another example of why FDA regulation of tobacco products and marketing is so important, a new study released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention today found that many high school students who smoke and try to quit are unsuccessful, despite their relatively short smoking histories. Nearly two-thirds of students who ever smoked cigarettes daily tried to quit smoking cigarettes; however, among those who tried to quit, only 12% were successful. FDA regulation of tobacco products stops Big Tobacco from recuriting a new generation of smokers.
