American Cancer Society Announces Ethan Hasbrouck as New Jersey State Advocacy Director
Trenton, NJ (March 29, 2012) - The American Cancer Society of New York and New Jersey today announced that Ethan Hasbrouck has been named as its New Jersey state advocacy director, based in the Trenton office.
"Ethan's knowledge of New Jersey state government and legislative experience make him uniquely qualified for this position," said Blair Horner, Vice President for Advocacy, American Cancer Society on NY & NJ. "He will be working to advance public policies that benefit cancer patients, promote the early detection of cancer and that prevent cancer."
Advocacy priorities for the American Cancer Society in New Jersey include: protecting funds for the New Jersey Cancer Education & Early Detection program that provides free breast, cervical and colon cancer screening to the uninsured; monitoring implementation of the Patient Protection & Affordable Care Act; enacting a ban on indoor tanning for minors; and working to restore funds for the state's anti-tobacco efforts.
Hasbrouck served as chief of staff to Assemblyman Herbert Conaway, chair of the Assembly Health Committee for the past three years. In that role, he assisted in researching and developing the policy agenda of the Health Committee. He also directed its staff. Prior to that, he was the director of government affairs for the New Jersey Technology Council.
Hasbrouck is a graduate of the University of Connecticut and currently is pursuing a Master's in Public Administration degree at Rutgers-Camden University. He resides in Sewell, New Jersey.

About the American Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society combines an unyielding passion with nearly a century of experience to save lives and end suffering from cancer. As a global grassroots force of more than three million volunteers, we fight for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. We save lives by helping people stay well by preventing cancer or detecting it early; helping people get well by being there for them during and after a cancer diagnosis; by finding cures through investment in groundbreaking discovery; and by fighting back by rallying lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and by rallying communities worldwide to join the fight. As the nation's largest non-governmental investor in cancer research, contributing more than $3.4 billion, we turn what we know about cancer into what we do. As a result, more than 11 million people in America who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will be celebrating birthdays this year.
