Not just ONCE. We made Port Lavaca, Texas smoke-free TWICE!

November 13, 2015

ACS CAN has been actively engaged for well-over a decade to eliminate smoking in restaurants, bars and work places in Texas. Our most recent smoke-free campaign victory took place in Port Lavaca, Texas,a gulf coast community whose city council recently passed a bill which prohibits smoking or vaping inside all public buildings.

However, that didnŠ—Èt stop our opponents. They quickly launched a campaign to allow voters to make the ultimate decision.

Thanks to the incredible work of our local staff and volunteers, we were once again victorious.

Last week, Port Lavaca residents took to the polls and upheld the smoke-free law by an overwhelming vote margin of 76 to 24 percent. The new law will take effect as soon as the city council certifies the election results.

This marks the 43rd smoke-free city in Texas! ACS CAN will continue our smoke-free advocacy efforts to ensure that everyone in Texas and across the country has the right to breathe smoke-free air.
