Oregon City Supports Statewide Ban on Flavored Tobacco Products
OREGON CITY, OR — Oregon City has taken a stand against flavored tobacco products by passing a resolution on Wednesday that calls for an end to their sale.
Yesterday afternoon, the Illinois General Assembly passed a $1 cigarette tax increase, raising the statewide tax from $.98 to $1.98 per pack.ξ The bill now moves to Governor Quinn for his signature, and once signed, the tax increase will go into effect on June 24. This tax increase also includes other tobacco products (OTP), which brings the OTP rate up closer to the cigarette tax rate.ξ Illinois will now jump in ranking from 32nd to 16th place with the highest amount of state cigarette taxes.ξ Congratulations to Illinois on this exciting victory!
