Governor Protects Funding for Cancer Programs

Governor Protects State Funding for Breast and Cervical Cancer Programs and Cigarette Restitution Fund Programs!  

On November 18, Governor O'Malley announced his administration's plan for closing a $363 million hole in our state budget.  The good news is there no cuts to the Maryland Breast and Cervical Cancer Programs (BCCP).  Advocacy volunteers collected and sent hundreds of petitions from the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Events to Governor O'malley urging his support for the BCCP programs.   Last month, Governor O'Malley was recognized for protecting these life-saving programs at our Breast Cancer Birthday Party in front of the State House.

In addition, there are no further cuts to the cigarette restitution fund (CRF) programs.  The CRF programs provide cancer and tobacco control programs in our state.  However, the tobacco control program funding was reduced from $21 million to $7 million during the 2009 session of the MD General assembly.
