At A Glance: NJ Cancer Burden

January 17, 2013

This morning the American Cancer Society released it's annual Cancer Facts & Figures report. Below are some key statistics from the report demonstrating the burden of cancer in New Jersey.

Lung cancer is expected to remain the number one cancer killer in the state, illustrating the need to fund New Jersey's tobacco-fighting program.  Stats below also include numbers of breast and colon cancers, which underscore the importance of maintaining funding for the New Jersey Cancer Education and Early Detection (NJ-CEED) program that provides free cancer screenings to the uninsured and underinsured. Gov. Christie should use this new data to bolster the case for enhanced state support for these lifesaving programs.
