“For decades, the tobacco industry has thrived on the business of addiction by marketing to children and lying to adults about the harms of its deadly products,” said Bryte Johnson, director of government relations for the American Cancer Society’s Cancer Action Network. Johnson added the industry spends an estimated $73 million annually in Connecticut, “specifically targeting vulnerable populations.” In theory, there should be a lot of money to curb tobacco use, a problem that disproportionately affects low-income state residents.
