Ambassadors Meet with Congressman John Tierney
June 30, 2009
On Tuesday, June 30 ACS CAN volunteers (from left) Val Deland, Carol Clark, Kirsten Paragona, Michael Belkin, and Society staffer Katie King met with Congressman John Tierney to present him with almost 1,000 “Linking Together for Health Care” bracelets signed by Massachusetts residents from through out the 6th Congressional District calling for national health care reform. The volunteers discussed the need to provide all Americans with access to quality, affordable health care to better prevent and treat cancer. The group brought important requests to the Congressman including the need to stop insurers from using pre-existing conditions, like cancer, as a reason to deny or limit coverage and ensuring that people with a chronic or catastrophic disease, such as cancer are not financially ruined by the cost of care. Congressman Tierney was knowledgeable and optimistic that reform is not only necessary but feasible in the near future. We thank the Congressman for his past support on cancer-related issues and hope that the positive momentum gained from this symbolic event will urge Congressional action now, not later on comprehensive health care reform.
