2020 Maine Session Summary
Victory in the fight against cancer requires bold new public policies that promote cancer prevention, early detection of cancer, and expand access to quality, affordable health care.
Once again, access to pain medication was a top priority issue of the legislature this session. With the Governor and legislature focused squarely on opioid addiction, ACS CAN successfully educated legislators and advocated for the voice of cancer patients to be heard. We were able to get language included in the bill which will exempt cancer patients and those suffering from pain related to a cancer diagnosis from a section of the bill which limits initial opioid prescriptions to a seven-day supply.
