330 People Can Make a Difference
Funding Restored to State Comprehensive Cancer Plan
Statement from Jennifer Sullivan, Esq., State Director of Advocacy for the American Cancer Society of NY & NJ, regarding the restoration of funding for New Jersey’s Comprehensive Cancer Plan:
Oct. 27, 2010 - In the past 24 hours, 330 New Jersey advocates emailed the Governor’s office urging him to tell the State Treasurer to release the funds.
And it worked, the state has acted!
The New Jersey State Treasurer has now released $900,000 (out of the total $1.2 million) in funding for New Jersey's Comprehensive Cancer Plan. Proving once again that advocacy does make a difference.
While this will mean $42,800 for each of the county coalitions instead of the original $50,000 appropriated, we are pleased that the state acted and did so quickly after our campaign started.
THANK YOU to everyone who played a role in getting the funding back. Unfortunately, this is likely only the beginning of our fight, given that the state will continue to face deficits into the foreseeable future. We will need to remain vigilant to protect this necessary funding, and stand ready to mobilize yet again if the situation requires.
