1.5 years as Legislative Ambassador
As a nursing student planning to specialize in pediatric oncology, working with this organization to protect people of all ages from cancer is teaching me how to become the most effective advocate for future patients. I also grew up watching my Dad channel his loss of both parents to cancer into immense drive and determination to make sure others do not have to experience that same loss. This inspired me to join the ACS club / Relay for Life at my high school, and after graduating, I was in awe at my first Leadership Summit and Lobby Day in Washington D.C. at the collective group effort to connect personally with lawmakers and seek their support for equitable cancer care for everyone. At LSLD I officially joined the Society of Emerging Leaders and connected with the most inspiring group of young adults passionate about universal healthcare accessibility.
Health equity is important to me because it can mean the difference between catching something early and surviving, or being too late. Accessible care is the aspect of health that is most in our control, and there is no reason for some people to have less of it than others.
