Debra Nevels, Black Volunteer CaucusDebra R. Nevels, MSHCM has been involved with ACS CAN for 12 years. She felt called to volunteer because her father passed from complications from prostate cancer; her mother had cervical cancer and her godfather died from lung cancer. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, she gained her Bachelors in African American History and a Master’s in health care management. 

Debra currently works with the Medical College of Wisconsin as the Program Manager for Community Outreach and Engagement for the Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center. Prior to coming to MCW, Debra worked as Manager for Health Systems – Hospitals Wisconsin for the American Cancer Society (7 years). She is also currently Adjunct Faculty at Concordia University in the College of the Health Services Administration program.

Debra has worked with under resourced populations in Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, and Texas.  Her innovative initiatives for community outreach and community building have impacted populations throughout the country; however, her passion remains with promoting health education for those impacted negatively by injustices in all forms.
