Brittanny Groover is a 32-year-old stage 3A melanoma survivor and dedicated advocate from Pennsylvania. Diagnosed with skin cancer in 2021 at the age of 27, after spending her youth in tanning beds and not wearing sunscreen, she completed 18 rounds of immunotherapy with Keytruda, enduring side effects such as colitis, gastritis, pancreatitis, loss of sense of smell and taste, DRESS syndrome, and minor body rashes. After completing treatment, she turned her priorities to cancer advocacy as a way to help bring awareness to skin cancer and AYA cancer.
In 2024, Brittanny joined ACS CAN as a volunteer after participating in Melanoma Advocacy Days, where she lobbied in Washington, DC for melanoma-related issues. This experience ignited her passion for volunteer work, and she now serves as the ACS Lead for District 14 in Pennsylvania. Additionally, she is a part of the LGBTQUIA+ and Allies Engagement Group with ACS CAN. She is committed to making fellow volunteers feel comfortable and eager to join the cause.
Brittanny has also volunteered with the Skin Cancer Foundation's Destination Healthy Skin program, which provides free skin checks by certified dermatologists across the US. She volunteered at the Morgantown, WV stop, where they successfully detected one melanoma early. Although she receives her cancer care in West Virginia, Brittanny was born and raised in southwestern Pennsylvania.
A mother of one, Brittanny has been with her partner, Myrl, for around 10 years, and they have a 9-year-old son named Jaxson. She actively shares her journey as a young melanoma cancer patient on social media @beingbrittanny, aiming to humanize cancer and shed light on the experience of being young with cancer.
As an influencer, Brittanny collaborates with the Melanoma Research Alliance and serves on the committee for the Don't Fry Day Campaign by the National Council on Skin Cancer Prevention. She is also a brand ambassador for Kinship, the maker of her favorite sunscreen, Self Reflect. Her motte: “the only we we can fight cancer is together!”
