Cancer doesn't stop for a pandemic, and the American Cancer Society hasn't stopped being there for cancer patients.  We're continually adapting to meet this crisis, and are inspired by how our community has risen to the occasion around us.  Below are resources that you can share with constituents who reach out asking for help when they or a loved one are facing a cancer diagnosis.  Additionally, we've included a newsletter drop-in that can be easily added to your next legislative newsletter.  Lastly, there are sample social media posts that direct cancer patients and caregivers to these resources.

Available Resources:

  • Cancer and the coronavirus - If you’re having trouble finding the information you need about coronavirus and COVID-19, the illness caused by the current strain of coronavirus, we’re here to help with current and reliable information. 
  • 1.800.227.2345 - Whether it’s the middle of the afternoon or the middle of the night, our cancer information specialists are here to help. Have questions about treatment options or potential side effects? We have you covered. Need a place to stay when treatment is far away? We can help. Even if you just need a friendly ear, we’re here to help and can assist in more than 200 languages (via a language line) – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Treatment and Support: Whether you want to learn about treatment options, get advice on coping with side effects, or have questions about health insurance, we're here to help.
  • Online community: You can share experiences, practical tips, and hope through the American Cancer Society Cancer Survivors Network®. This is a free online community created by and for people with cancer and their families.
  • Breast cancer support: Women with breast cancer can talk with a trained Reach To Recovery® volunteer who is a breast cancer survivor.
  • In addition to the support we are providing to cancer patients who contact us via phone and chat, we’ll be helping offset feelings of isolation for families facing cancer and seeking information by offering video chat. Schedule a video chat today.

Under the best of circumstances, a cancer diagnosis can be frightening and devastating. Now, during the COVID-19 crisis, cancer patients – many who already have compromised immune systems - are more vulnerable than ever. The American Cancer Society (ACS) is here to support cancer patients and communities facing the COVID-19 pandemic. As you or a loved one are facing a cancer diagnosis, please reach out and lean on us.
