The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) supports laws and policies at the federal, state, and local levels that help people fight cancer. We work to educate lawmakers, policymakers, candidates, the media, and the public about the importance of the government’s role in defeating cancer. We represent a nationwide grassroots movement of cancer patients, survivors, caregivers, and others who are dedicated to ensuring that government officials strongly support the fight.
ACS CAN was created by the American Cancer Society in 2001 to enact evidence-based public policy solutions that amplify the impact of the Society’s ongoing efforts to end suffering and death from cancer. As the Society’s nonpartisan advocacy affiliate, ACS CAN utilizes legislative, policy, grassroots, and communications resources to
- Boost government funding for lifesaving cancer research;
- Expand access to adequate, affordable health care for people with cancer and their families;
- Ensure that proven preventive screenings such as mammograms and colonoscopies are available to those who need them most; and
- Toughen effective tobacco control policies that discourage adults and children from smoking and protect workers from deadly secondhand smoke.
ACS CAN is committed to ensuring that the voices of people with cancer are heard in public policy debates nationwide, and we have the grassroots muscle to impact the results in ways that saves lives from cancer. If one person CAN battle cancer, a nation CAN rise up and defeat it. Visit us at www.fightcancer.org.
