The administration released its FY19 budget today including a minimum $1 billion cut for medical research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), down from what the House and Senate committees have approved for FY 18 funding levels.

Several of the largest public health organizations in the country are united in opposition to a Constitutional Revision Commission proposal that would strip language in the Florida constitution that ensures tobacco settlement money is invested in proven tobacco prevention and cessation strategies developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Today the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released data showing tobacco use by military veterans is nearly double the national average. The data, collected from 2010-2015 and published in the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, shows nearly 30 percent of veterans use some kind of tobacco.
