MD/DC outpace VA in Implementing Proven Cancer-Fighting Policies

Virginia lags behind Maryland and D.C. in implementing proven cancer-fighting public health policies according to a new report released today by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN). The Virginia Legislature’s inaction on these policies contributes to higher lung cancer incidence and death rates.

About two dozen cancer patients, survivors and advocates from the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) rallied at the Maryland Capitol today in support of restoring funding for comprehensive tobacco education to $21 million annually.

Cancer advocates meet with US Rep Andy Harris

About a dozen cancer patients, survivors and volunteers rallied outside the Salisbury office of U.S. Rep. Andy Harris earlier today to deliver the message that any changes to the Affordable Care Act (ACA) must maintain critical patient protections while ensuring that coverage is affordable and adequate. Any changes to the law should provide equal or better coverage of cancer prevention, treatment and follow-up care.
