TOPEKA, Kan. – March 20, 2019 – Today, the Kansas House of Representatives approved a bill to allow for more residents to qualify for KanCare coverage. In response, Jordan Feuerborn, Kansas government relations director for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, issued the following statement.
“Today, the House of Representatives took an important step toward increasing access to health insurance coverage for an estimated 150,000 low-income Kansans, which will be critical in the fight against cancer in our state. We would like to commend the bipartisan group of lawmakers who led the effort to expand eligibility for the KanCare program.
“Quality health care coverage is critical to preventing, detecting and surviving cancer. But right now, most low-income parents and adults do not qualify for any affordable health insurance coverage, which limits their ability to access preventive screenings, diagnostic testing and cancer treatment care. The passage of this bill will create a path through which countless cancer patients, survivors and individuals facing a cancer diagnosis can access the care they need, giving them a fighting chance against diseases like cancer.
“We’d like to thank our representatives and Gov. Laura Kelly for prioritizing this legislation. We look forward to working with the members of the state Senate to ensure that low-income Kansans can access life-changing and lifesaving health insurance coverage through the KanCare program.”
