March 8, 2017

TRENTON, NJ – March 8, 2017 -The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) has named Brian Shott of Cinnaminson as New Jersey government relations director. In this post, Shott will oversee advocacy efforts promoting evidence-based policy and legislative solutions designed to eliminate cancer as a major health problem.

Shott comes to ACS CAN after serving as a Senior Program Manager for the State Health Reform Assistance Network and State Health and Value Strategies programs.  These two Robert Wood Johnson Foundation programs housed at Princeton University provide technical assistance to states in their implementation of the coverage provisions of the Affordable Care Act and efforts to improve population health and reform the delivery of health care services.

“New Jersey is facing crucial health care issues, including the need for increased funding for tobacco cessation and prevention programs,” said Bill Sherman, vice president of government relations of the Eastern Division of the ACS CAN. “Brian brings us a wealth of experience in government and public policy to help ACS CAN work to save lives and diminish suffering from cancer. He has maintained positive relationships with state leaders in all levels of government and advocacy.”

“ACS CAN works every day with government leaders and volunteers to help defeat cancer,” said Shott. “I am excited to be part of this powerful, important team and look forward to advocating our evidence- based, life-saving policy proposals to our government leaders.”

Prior to his time at Princeton, Shott spent several years as a legislative aide for New Jersey State Senate President Steve Sweeney.  In this role, he worked on legislation across a variety of policy areas, engaging with stakeholders across the state.  He also previously served as an intern in the office of Senator Joe Vitale, Chairman of the Senate Health, Human Services, and Senior Citizens Committee.

Shott is based at the ACS CAN Office at 156 W State St, Trenton, NJ 08608. He can be reached at 609-393-8400 or [email protected].
