A new study by the American Cancer Society says the death rate for cancer has been steadily declining over the past 25 years, due in part to advances in early detection and lower smoking rates.
The hard work and dedication of ACS CAN members and volunteers have played a significant role in contributing to this decline.
Across the country, ACS CAN volunteers have worked tirelessly in their communities helping pass laws that have stopped kids from starting to smoke, helped current smokers quit, and prevented people from getting cancer.
And in Congress, ACS CAN volunteers have helped secure dramatic increases in federal cancer research funding. This funding has and will continue to generate new breakthroughs that revolutionize the ways we prevent, detect and treat cancer.
