Defending Against Preemption
Louisiana currently gives municipalities the option to enact laws that extend beyond what is written at the state legislature. This allows them to protect their residents, workers and visitors under comprehensive smoke-free laws. If preemption is enacted by the state legislature, local governing authorities would no longer have the power to pass anything stronger than current state law.
