American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network to host Iowa Day at the Capitol, connecting volunteers and lawmakers
Des Moines, Iowa (Jan. 17, 2017)— The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) will host a Day at the Capitol for cancer advocates on Monday, Jan. 23, in Des Moines. Volunteers will learn how to communicate with their lawmakers about issues that are important to cancer patients and their support network.
More than 90 volunteers are registered to attend the event. They will spend the morning learning about ACS CAN priorities for this session, which include protecting funds for cancer screening and tobacco cessation and prevention, as well as establishing a palliative care advisory board for the state. They will then attend meetings with lawmakers from their district at the Capitol.

11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. Volunteers bused to Capitol for lawmaker meetigs
1 to 3 p.m. Debrief at Holiday Inn Downtown at Mercy Campus
