Madison, Wisc. – (Sept. 28, 2016) – Likely voters in Wisconsin strongly favor increasing federal investments in medical research for cancer, according to a new poll released today by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN).
The poll findings were released today to kick off Cancer Votes, ACS CAN’s statewide voter education campaign. From now through election day, Cancer Votes volunteers will be educating voters and candidates on how elected officials can play a critical role in eliminating death and suffering from this disease.
The poll, conducted by Lake Research Partners and The Tarrance Group, found:
- Voters strongly favor both “steadily” increasing federal investments in medical research for cancer and “significantly” increasing federal investments. Voters show strong support for a steady increase in federal funding (79 percent favor, 59 percent strongly favor), as well as for a significant increase in federal investments (78 percent favor, 66 percent strongly favor).
- Wisconsin voters say it is urgent for the federal government to increase federal funding for cancer research. At least four-fifths of voters say it is urgent, with nearly half saying it is extremely or very urgent (82 percent urgent, 46 percent extremely or very urgent).
- Voters feel it is important for the next president and Congress to focus on ending cancer as we know it. Over four-fifths of voters say it is important for the next president and Congress to focus on ending cancer (83 percent important, 50 percent very important).
