Holding the Purse $trings on Tobacco Settlement Funds

A new report released today looks at how states are spending their tobacco settlement and tax revenue. Results show that only a fraction of dedicated funding is actually be used to support tobacco prevention and control programs, despite a growing trend to increase state tobacco tax. The report, titled A Broken Promise to Our Children: The 1998 State Tobacco Settlement 11 Years Later, was released by the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, American Lung Association and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
