Cancer Screening

This year in New York an estimated 110,280 people will be diagnosed with cancer and 34,910 will die from the disease.

New York State will see:

• 16,360 new cases of breast cancer
• 790 new cases of cervical cancer
• 8,730 new cases of colorectal cancer. 

Mobile Mammography Services:

• New York has committed to fighting cancer in underserved communities with a fleet of mobile mammography vans that will serve approximately 100,000 women each year.

Eliminating Copays for Mammograms:

• New York became the first state in the nation to eliminate annual deductibles, copays, and coinsurance payments for breast cancer screening.

Extended Hours for Screenings:

• New York broke down barriers to breast cancer screening by requiring 210 hospitals and hospital extension clinics to offer extended hours of screening for at least four hours per week to help women who have difficulty scheduling mammograms during the typical workday hours.
