Courage in Action: Cancer Survivors Unite at State Capitol to Advocate for Change
Illinois Must Do Better to Reduce the Burden of Cancer
Columbia, SC – December 11, 2017 – Senator Thomas Alexander was awarded the National Award for Distinguished State Leadership, a prestigious honor bestowed by the National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable which was co-founded by the American Cancer Society (ACS) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and is a proud collaboration of over 100 public, private, and voluntary organizations committed to fighting colorectal cancer. Sen. Alexander was given this award because of his support of ACS’s mission to save lives from colorectal cancer in the 80% by 2018 effort.
“Senator Alexander has been a driving force behind legislation to improve the quality of life for cancer patients in South Carolina,” said Beth Johnson, South Carolina government relations director, American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN). “His actions have demonstrated his commitment to fighting cancer through public policy, and we look forward to continuing to work together to save lives in South Carolina.”
The Roundtable commended the senator for his leadership within the South Carolina legislature to ensure colorectal cancer screening programs and funding for medically underserved and uninsured populations. As a state leader, Sen. Alexander knows all too well the toll cancer can have on our local communities, and we admire his championing of cancer screening to improve the lives of your constituents.
ACS CAN applauds Sen. Alexander’s determination to enact meaningful legislation that benefits public health and saves lives from cancer in South Carolina.
