Momentum builds for passing tobacco tax

Tobacco Tax Media Event
What a beautiful day on March 7! Not only was the weather gorgeous but we had a fantastic Tobacco Tax Media Event in front of the State House along with our health advocates. The goal of the media event was to continue building momentum for the issue and to continue pressure on our state lawmakers to increase the tax on cigarettes by a $1.00 per pack and increase the tax on other tobacco products and pass legislation this year. .
Tobacco Tax Hearings
Following the media event, 5 panels of speakers testified in support of the tobacco tax at the
Senate Budget and Taxation Committee Hearingon March 7. The House Hearring will take place in the House Ways and Means Committee at 1:00 pm on March 9.
The bill #'s are House Bill 1153 and Senate Bill 526.
