Celebration of the 5-year anniversary of the Clean Indoor Air Act

On Friday, February 1, the annual ACS CAN Maryland Research breakfast took place in Annapolis.  The program was exceptional, not only honoring the three Sponsors of the 2007 Clean Indoor Actl, but also tracing the history of tobacco control in Maryland and citing the many heroes along the way who helped to finally achieve comprehensive smoke free area and a discussion of the future of lung cancer prevention and early detection. 

The Sponsors of the Maryland Clean Indoor Air Legislation were honored during the event.  Former Senator Ida Ruben, Delegate Barbara Frush, and Senator Rob Garagiola

The speakers for the event were, Glenn Schneider, Chief Program Officer, Horizon Foundation and former staff at Smoke-Free Maryland, Donald Shell, MD, MPH, Director of the Cancer and Chronic Disease Bureau at the Maryland State Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, and Dr. Phillip Dennis, Director of the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins Bayview

The program ended with comments from Chris Hansen, ACS CAN President and Dr Anna Johnson-Winegar, Chair of the Maryland Research Breakfast Committee speaking about the importance of the work of ACS CAN in the continued efforts to reduce the burden of cancer.
