Denver Henderson to Lead ACS CAN Government Relations in Montana and Wyoming
Longtime Organizer and Advocate Assumes Role, Ready to Push for Medicaid Access and Expansion
CHEYENNE, Wyo. — After years of grassroots organizing and campaign work in the Western states, Denver Henderson has been named the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) Government Relations Director for his home state of Montana as well as Wyoming. In this role he will lead ACS CAN’s efforts to advance legislation and public policy to reduce the cancer burden in both states.
"I'm incredibly honored by the opportunity to fight for every Montanan and Wyomingite impacted by cancer,” Henderson said. “I will work tirelessly to remove barriers and improve access to cancer care for everybody and specifically those living in rural settings."
Henderson previously served as ACS CAN’s Grassroots Manager in Montana and Wyoming and worked for more than a decade as organizer for the Service Employees International Union Local 775 in Montana, helping improve wages and benefits for caregivers across the state. He has spent significant time in Wyoming as part of his ACS CAN work, connecting with residents on their need for quality, affordable health care and learning about the burden placed on rural care systems in states that have not yet acted to expand Medicaid.
“Medicaid expansion has been crucial in improving health outcomes in Montana and sustaining rural care infrastructure,” Henderson said. “We will work to keep that program strong and push to get the same quality, affordable health care in Wyoming, which remains one of 10 states to not expand Medicaid despite the will of the majority of Wyomingites.”
